THOMAS READY FOR DEFENCE
Justin Thomas defends his title at Hilton Head Island
JUSTIN THOMAS hopes a few days of being able to “decompress” after the Masters can help him refocus for the defence of his RBC Heritage title at Hilton Head Island.
The PGA Tour’s fourth signature event of the season gets under way at the Harbour Town Golf Links today, with the field set to feature 16 of the top 20 players.
Rory McIlroy is taking some time off after securing his second Green Jacket while Justin Rose is another not making a swift return.
But Augusta runner-up Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood and Ireland’s Shane Lowry are among those who have made the trip to South Carolina.
And Thomas – who finished well down the Augusta field as his recovery from a back problem continues – feels getting into action again straight away can help him refocus for the challenges ahead.
“It is tough (after the Masters), but at least for me I have found that using Monday as just a day off helps,” he said.
“We stay (in Augusta) on Sunday night, just drive here and just take the day off”.
“Just really need a day of rest and to decompress and kind of get back to it on Tuesday has been a pretty decent recipe.”
