The Austrian Alpine Open at Golfclub Gut Altentann is a parkland layout near Saltzburg designed by the Jack Nicklaus team which means it places more emphasis on quality approach shots than demanding drives.
Beyond that architectural nugget, however, there are few other clues because the course has not hosted tournament golf on the third tier or above. So I’m really in the dark regarding Course form going into this one.
Of the favourites, Jordan Smith is as consistent as ever but built into that is a consistent difficulty with actually winning. Matthew Jordan continues to seek his first win, as does Joost Luiten , that said all three feature in my selections for this weeks six for the Fantasy DP World Tour.
Smith features in my team for the fourth time out of a possible maximum five his recent form of T4-T7-2-T28-T30 show his consistency for picking up points at this level and he is an obvious choice for me as I need points after a few dodgy weeks, but more on my league position later.
In Kristoffer Reitan as a second choice I again look to a tried and trusted points collector with his form of 1-T33-T2-T69-T31 and he is someone I have missed out on but coming from nine shots back to win last week displayed great mental strength and a game that can stand up in the heat of battle.
As I’ve said Matthew Jordan, like Smith is still chasing that elusive first win and like Smith is in my team for the fourth time as his form T9-T17-MC-T32-12 is that of a regular points collector as his average per tournament of 110 points suggests.
I’m hoping for one of these two to come through the win gate while in my team.
Eugenio Chacarra makes his second appearance in my team and despite a disappointing outing last time out his form of T31-MC-T11-T4-1 and average points of 132 per tournament certainly warrant inclusion once again this week.
Joost Luiten with form of T16-T5-MC-14-3 and an average points haul per tournament of 118 makes his third appearance in my six and I round this weeks selections off with Angel Ayora the young Spanish player whose form of T11-T61-T49-T52-64 is trending in the right direction and he has shown if he gets into the weekend he performs solidly.
As for my league positions I’m currently in two leagues:
The Here We Golf Pod on YouTube
I’m holding second place atm and Darren Sharp and myself have both had a few iffy weeks which helped me stay within 116 points of him but we have let others close in on us so I need a couple of good weeks not only to put Darren under pressure for top spot but also to lock in a top three finish.
The BlueSky League:
This league has become very competitive over the last few weeks and while long time leader James Twiddy remains at the top he is only five hundred odd points away and still remains catchable. My main focus this week is to attempt to grasp second place from Ian Woods who is a couple of hundred points in front of me, so that may take me a couple of weeks to achieve but I’m also mindful that Richard Jarvis in fourth is a mere one hundred and fifteen behind me and is trending over the last number of weeks and my top three position is in jeopardy if I don’t get back to that 1000 point form again soon.
